CURB costs less than other parking solutions.
While CURB costs about the same as other automated parking solutions, the actual cost to the purchaser is expected to be far less because of grant funding. Because alternative transportation is an integral part of CURB, the system often qualifies for grant funding which can offset the costs of installing the system. SST has grant writers on staff to assist in identifying and applying for grants.
CURB improves enforcement efficiency.
CURB allows for the automatic notification of non pay and overtime violations directly to enforcement personnel thus allowing the City to better utilize enforcement staff. With the CURB System, enforcement personnel can now respond proactively to violations rather than waste time hunting for violations, marking tires, scanning barcodes and other manual operations.
CURB supports “time restricted” and/or “limited free parking.”
Free parking has historically provided cities with an elegant method to encourage the public to patronize downtown merchants while still ensuring sufficient turn over in spaces. CURB allows the city to support local merchants by providing free parking.
CURB assists in raising parking rates.
With traditional meters, a major limiting factor is the “coin barrier” which prevents cities from effectively raising parking fees for on street parking, as most motorists do not carry sufficient change to pay the increased rates. By accepting payment electronically, and by other non‐coin payment options such as subscriptions, motorists are less resistant to higher rates.
CURB enables dynamic pricing.
CURB allows cities to set rates dynamically, allowing for an increase/decrease in evening rates to support special events and manage parking during high/low traffic times. A city can dynamically set the rates via a management console provided by SST. Additionally, CURB allows cities to offer discounted pre‐paid parking, on street merchant validation, and special pricing in certain sections. This maximizes cities ability to use price theory, discounts, and sponsorships to maximize revenues with minimal impact to city residents and guests.
CURB prevents piggybacking.
CURB prevents piggybacking by automatically detecting the arrival and departure of vehicles. This allows CURB to “clear the meter” when the vehicle departs. The next motorist must now pay and cannot use any leftover time and the city keeps the “breakage” or unused time increment.
